Picking a James Hardie siding color is one of the decisions you will need to make when residing your home. Sometimes this is easy because your HOA limits your color choices or maybe you have a favorite color that you know you want to go with. Other times this can be a very difficult decision and you may go back and forth a dozen times before landing on a color.
In an effort to help homeowners that want more color options beyond their standard Statement Collection, James Hardie created their Dream Collection. This collection has over 700 colors available for consumers to choose from and James Hardie will paint almost all of their siding and trim products in any of these colors. There are also no order minimums, so regardless of how big your home is you can order exactly how many pieces you need to complete your project.
As a homeowner, you are now able to mix and match the color of your siding and trim beyond the standard 6 trim colors and 25 siding colors. The coating is the same innovative coating that James Hardie has developed over the last 20 years and the application process is slightly different but is still a multiple coat finish that is baked on. The Dream Collection comes with the same 15-year finish warranty as all Colorplus products which warrants against chipping, cracking, and peeling of the paint. It is good peace of mind to know that if you ever have an issue with the siding, it is all covered by the same manufacturer.
There are some downsides to going with the Dream Collection. One major one is the added cost. The Dream Collection is usually 25% more than the Statement collection. You also have to factor in that you are ordering a custom product that is not going to be stocked at any local suppliers so it may take several weeks, or even months before the product will arrive at your home.
Some other factors that need to be considered are that not all of the accessories you need to properly install James Hardie Colorplus are available in all 700 + Dream colors. You may have to use the “closest match” available in OSI Quad color-matched caulking. The same is true with metal flashing. No lumberyard or supplier is going to carry all of the color-matched accessories because of the sheer number of colors available.
Another issue that has come upon several of our jobs is we have run short of material and needed just a handful of pieces to finish the project. When this happens on your typical Statement collection project or primed and painted we can just run to our local supplier and get the necessary pieces to finish. With the Dream Collection, your options are to paint the remaining pieces on-site or order the necessary pieces and wait as long as it takes to get replacement material from James Hardie. This can sometimes be 6-8 weeks.
